What support is available for new pupils that take longer to settle?
We recognise that some pupils take longer to settle, and there is strong support in place to help them feel at home.
All staff keep a close eye on new pupils and are vigilant for signs of homesickness, worry, or lack of confidence. Every new pupil is paired with a guardian – an existing student in the same year group – so there is always a friendly face to help them find their way around and understand daily routines.
New pupils are also encouraged to join activities and clubs, and we actively help them to find others with similar interests, which often makes friendships and confidence grow more quickly.
We also reassure new joiners that taking time to get used to the routines and rhythms of a new school is completely normal, and that many pupils feel this way at first.
Throughout this period, both academic staff (such as Form Tutors and Heads of Year) and boarding staff (including House Parents and the boarding team) are there to listen, support, and work with families if any concerns continue.
