How many pupils typically join Year 9?

Year 9 at Leweston is usually made up of three classes of around 18 pupils, giving a typical year group size of about 54.

In years with significant interest, the year group may be extended to four classes, with a maximum size of around 72 pupils.

We usually accept between 10 and 15 pupils into Year 9 from outside the school each year. Most of these join us from independent prep schools, with others transferring from maintained senior or middle schools.

When pupils move into Year 9, all tutor groups are re‑created, so that existing pupils and new joiners are mixed together. This means everyone approaches this important year with a fresh start, new combinations of classmates, and the chance to build new friendships.
