How do you support new pupils at Leweston Senior school?

Every new pupil is given both a guardian and a peer mentor to help them settle into Senior School life.

Each new pupil is assigned a guardian from the year group they are joining. The guardian:

  • Accompanies them during the school day in the early weeks
  • Shows them how routines work (timetables, classrooms, lunch, activities)
  • Acts as a friendly advocate and first point of contact among their peers

This support is especially important in the first few weeks. Most pupils adapt quickly and, once they feel confident, naturally become more independent.

New pupils are also given a peer mentor, a trained Sixth Form student who supports younger pupils. They meet with their mentor regularly over the first term, and in many cases this relationship continues, with the mentor remaining a trusted older friend throughout their time at school together.
