Can a pupil swap boarding room if they do not like their allocated dorm?
Room allocations cannot normally be changed mid‑term, except in extenuating circumstances, but dorm groups are reviewed and often rotated at the end of term.
Boarding room allocations are a sensitive process that has to balance the needs and requests of all boarders, including both UK and international pupils. For this reason, pupils are not able to swap dorms during the term simply because they dislike their room allocation. Changes are only considered where there are clear extenuating circumstances.
Where possible, a pupil’s preferences are taken into account in advance. Dorm groups are reviewed at the end of each term, and pupils may rotate rooms at that point. If a pupil is not able to have their preferred choice for the current term, their request will be prioritised for the next set of allocations, where spaces allow.
Pupils and families are also reminded that dorms are for sleeping and quiet time, and that boarders can spend their free time in communal areas or visiting friends in other dorms. This helps pupils to socialise widely, even if they are in a different room group overnight.
